Sharon Bergreen Hunt, 84, passed away peacefully with family by her side on January 5, 2026, of vascular dementia. A woman of faith, she was a devoted member of the Catholic Church.
Sharon was born June 24, 1941 in Portland Oregon, to parents Arthur and Lydia Bergreen, who had moved to Portland from the prairies of Saskatchewan Canada. Sharon grew up in the Laurelhurst area and then later attended and graduated from Lincoln High School. She attended University of Oregon before marrying John Murphy Hunt. They had four children together before their divorce: Sean (Bridget), Kevin (Kellie), Timothy, and Shannon (who became her caregiver). Sharon was blessed with nine grandchildren: Rachel, Nolan, Avery, Ryan, Wyatt, Marco, Rory, Jesse, and Cheyenne; and ten great-grandchildren.
Sharon loved her family and her community. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. Her door was always open for family, friends and neighbors. Some of her grandchildren were able to live with her and she cherished this time with them. She spent her career working in interior painting and decorative wallpaper installation, as well as serving as the neighborhood nanny.
Her family and friends have many special memories of Sharon including travels in her vintage red VW Bus filled with kids and dogs, her back deck slumber parties in the summer, her delicious pies and angel food cakes, and her Cascade Head hikes and beach adventures.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Lydia and Arthur, the father of her children – John, her daughter-in-law Jennie, and her son-in-law Marcel. She is survived by her four children, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, sister Chloe, two nieces, one nephew and numerous cousins.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Portland on January 21, 2026 at 10 a.m. A private burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family suggests remembrances be made to St. Mary’s Cathedral in Portland, Oregon.
